Tank's PennHIP information

PennHIP .57/.58. These are decent distraction indices, about average for the English shepherds that have been evaluated. There was no degenerative joint disease found. If Tank is not allowed to get overweight, and continues to get regular exercise, it's likely that his hips will never be a problem for him. His owner also has started him on a joint supplement to add another preventive factor.

PennHIP distraction view of Tank's hips. This view shows what the joints look like under tension - which is designed to pull on the hip joint to see how tightly the ligaments hold it together. You can see that hips hips are a little loose, with the balls only loosely seated in the sockets under this tension. Even so, the ball and socket fit well together, which lessens the wear and tear on the joint. You can see how well they match in the compression view of his hips below.
This is the view that OFA looks at to evaluate hips. The balls are still well-seated in the socket, and the sockets are reasonably deep. This is also the view used to detect degeneration in the joint. There was none in Tank's hips.
