Orchard Hill Ranch
English shepherds
2016 Litter at Five weeks
They have changed so fast at this age! Now they run around, wrestle, come when I call (some even come to their names), and are eating small meals twice a day (adult kibble soaked in goat's milk). I also got the DNA parentage tests back, and they are all Zeke offspring. We've started going on short walk-abouts - just to the front yard and off to the flower garden, but that will expand this coming week as they are even more mobile and active. I have started working with them on manners. When I sit with them, they climb into my lap, then try to climb up to my face. Now, I love puppy kisses, but jumping and climbing on people won't be so cute when they are grown. So I wait until they have four feet on the ground before petting them and scratching their ears. In just a few days, the climbing behavior has diminished, and I expect it will be gone by the end of the week. I am also discouraging biting by saying "OUCH!", which has worked so far. They quit biting and start licking. When I feed them, I also wait until at least one of them is sitting, then put their dish in front of whichever one or two are sitting. I'm seeing more of them sit, and sit faster after just a few days.
What was just beginning two weeks ago, has grown to frequent wrestling, play bows, squabbles (and learning how to end squabbles), and playing with toys.
